Our destination is Kealakekua Bay Marine Preserve and the site of the Captain Cook Monument. This area is one of Hawaii’s premier snorkel spots with incredible visibility and calm conditions. All snorkel gear, high quality silicone masks, Rx masks, fins, float boards or vests and detailed instruction are included. Kealakekua Bay is full of Hawaiian history and the events will be recounted by the crew while you enjoy our tropical snack of fresh pineapple and fruit, chips, cookies and assortment of refreshing soft drinks.

Our captains are experts at spotting pods of dolphins, humpback whales and other marine mammals and Zodiac rafts are the best way to see them. Get ready for close up views of the sea caves, lava tubes, blowholes and archways as you explore the rugged coastline. Learn about the geology that continues to form of the islands.

Same great tour as the award winning 4-hour AM or PM adventure, but timed to allow you to snorkel with less people at the bay!

Departing at 10:00, we plan to arrive to Kealakekua Bay midday when other morning tours have departed. We are able to provide you with a more intimate, less crowded snorkel experience. Kealakekua Bay is a marine preserve and the site of the Captain Cook Monument. This area is one of Hawaii’s premier snorkel spots with incredible visibility and calm conditions. The area is full of Hawaiian history. These events will be recounted as your captain “talks story” after snorkeling.

Captains have the bonus option to allow guests to “swim with dolphins” (at his discretion, safety first!). This adventure offers more time for exploring and snorkeling in Kealakekua Bay, or another snorkel spot and/or added viewing time with humpback whales, pilot whales and dolphins! We also include a light deli lunch sandwich (dietary restrictions upon request), chips, cookies, fresh local pineapple, bottled water and soft drinks.

Imagine your first sighting of a pod of Hawaiian spinner dolphins. They swim effortlessly along in large social groups called “pods”. Our Zodiac approaches cautiously and then suddenly there they are amazingly close, right next to the raft. Your captain, careful not to disturb them, follows along as they circle their resting area.

You suit up into mask and fins and gently slip over the side. Having been briefed on proper protocol, you gently float in the vicinity of the dolphin pod, hoping they will approach. Then it happens, the pod moves closer and you see them gliding along beneath you. You see a “keiki”, or baby dolphin, keeping close to its mother. You hear the “clicks” of their sonar and it seems like they are looking right at you!

A dolphin encounter is the experience of a lifetime. Hawaii’s spinner dolphins are a close knit family unit. Pods of dolphins frequent the Kona coast waters taking time to rest during the day before their nocturnal feeding schedule. Captain Zodiac follows NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) recommendations for safe encounters with marine mammals.

Tour includes soft drinks, snacks, snorkel gear and professional instructions.

Zodiac rafts are a fast and fun ride however ocean rafting can be rough at times and we do not recommend this tour for anyone with any back or neck problems or pregnant women.

Encountering the humpback whales on 24-foot Zodiac boats is an amazing experience! Every winter humpback whales migrate to Hawaii to mate and give birth. Your naturalist captain will explain the whale’s behaviors and get as close to them as possible (we adhere to Federal MMPA viewing regulations). We also have hydrophones onboard to listen to the beautiful whale song.

Zodiac rafts are known worldwide as the perfect vessel to observe marine life. Our fast moving Zodiacs get into viewing position quickly and provide an exhilarating and fun ride. The small group atmosphere of our expedition allows for a personal and intimate tour. The rafts are only a few feet off the water and everyone has a front row seats on our 16 passenger Zodiac.

We frequently sight dolphins and other marine life during our expeditions and as time allows we can take you up close to see the sea caves, lava tubes and rugged coastline.

What to bring: Wear clothing that you don’t mind getting wet, towels, light cover up, sun protection (including sunscreen, hats or visors and sunglasses) Cameras are fine, however we recommend you bring some protection (plastic bag) because we may get occasional spray on the Zodiac ride.

Due to the bouncy nature of our ride however, we do not allow any persons with back or neck problems or pregnant women.
