Quick Tour Info

Why Choose the Morning and Afternoon Kealakekua Snorkel Tour?

Kealakekua Bay is easily one of the best places to snorkel in Hawaii–ask anyone.

As a marine sanctuary, the coral reef in Kealakekua Bay is protected, vibrant, and very much alive. It’s also where the Captain Cook Monument sits (you’ll learn all about it on your ride). While you’re swimming around with parrot fish and humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa, you’re also floating through Hawaiian history.

During this Big Island adventure you’ll zip across waves, dive into clear water, and hear island stories straight from our local guides. Whether you join us in the afternoon or early morning, you’ll enjoy calmer conditions, great visibility, and a more relaxed experience with fewer crowds.

Here’s What the Morning and Afternoon Kealakekua Bay Tour Is Like

On our Kealakekua snorkel tour we like to keep things simple and fun. You check in, hop on one of our Zodiac rafts, and off we go.

Zodiacs are small, quick, and incredibly nimble. They’re the same boats used by Navy SEALs and marine researchers—not your average cruise boat. That means we can get closer to the lava tubes, slide into sea caves, and buzz over reef ledges where the big boats can’t go.

The boating ride out to Kealakekua Bay is half the fun. As small boats, the Zodiacs are able to use the ocean like their personal roller coaster, splashing over waves and across the water. Even with the fun bumps and jumps of the ocean, the ride to Kealakekua is smooth enough for most people (although, for their own safety, we do not take anyone pregnant or with neck or back injuries). As we cruise the coast, your guide will “talk story”—sharing legends, history, and fun facts about what you’re seeing.

Then we hit Kealakekua Bay and gear up.

Snorkel Gear’s On Us (And It’s Actually Good Gear)

We bring all the stuff: high-end silicone masks, fins, floatation devices, and even prescription masks if you need one. If you’re new to snorkeling, no problem. We’ll give you a quick rundown on how everything works and make sure you’re comfortable before getting in the water.

Once you’re floating, you’ll see what the fuss is about. The visibility here is unreal: sometimes up to 100 feet. There’s coral everywhere, schools of fish darting past, maybe a turtle if you’re lucky. And the water is warm and gentle, perfect for taking your time.

You can explore on your own, stay close to the raft, or just chill and let the fish come to you. It’s your day, it’s your tour! We’re just here to make it unforgettable.

Post-Snorkel Snack Break

You’re guaranteed to work up an appetite after your swim during this early morning & afternoon Kealakekua snorkel tour. Climb back aboard for a casual snack; we’ve got fresh pineapple, seasonal fruit, cookies, chips, and cold drinks to help you refuel.

What’s So Special About Zodiac Boats?

If you’ve never ridden in one, you’re in for a treat.

Zodiacs are basically the sports cars of the ocean. Low to the water, super maneuverable, and small enough to make the experience feel personal, not like you’re one of 50 people jockeying for elbow room. The small group size (16 passengers max) means we can offer a more laid-back, custom feel to everything we do.

A Few Need-to-Knows Before You Embark on a Snorkel Tour to Kealakekua Bay With Us

Please note that due to the bouncy nature of our ride we do not allow any persons with back or neck problems or ladies that are pregnant on the tour.

Traveling with a big group? No worries, we’ve got more than one raft and can keep everyone together. Just give us a call and we’ll help plan it out.

We’ve Been Doing This for Over 50 Years, But Every Day Is New

A lot has changed since we started running tours five decades ago, but our passion for these waters hasn’t. Every morning, when we check the weather and prep the boats, we still feel excited, because no two days on the ocean are the same. Maybe the dolphins are feeling playful. Maybe the light hits the cliffs just right. Maybe the water’s so clear it feels like you’re flying.

That’s the magic of the Big Island. And we love being part of the moment when you see it for the first time.
